How to use FolderMount to move apps to SD card

foldermount

The new android firmware 4.0 and newer retracted the option to move large apps and games to the external SD card from the internal phone storage in order to save space and allow the phone to run smoother.  So with newer phones that only have 2 gigabytes of space internally how are you supposed to run a game that takes 1.5 gigabytes smoothly especially when the phones bloatware takes close to a half a gigabyte of space by itself??  Well there is an easy solution!!  The app FolderMount has the ability to link folders in your internal SD card to folders in your external SD card thereby populating the internal SD card folders with content that really exists in the external card. This helps you free space and have multiple games/apps with big data stored simultaneously without the need to uninstall!!  The app is pretty self explanatory and very user friendly but here are the steps to move/link a large app with FolderMount.

1.  First download and install the app FolderMount – “http://adf.ly/bxpi2”.

2.  Open FolderMount and press the plus in the top right corner of the screen to add a linked directory to the list of mounted apps.

3.  Name the mounted app,  you can name it anything you want but preferably to make it easier to remember name the linked directory the same name as the app so if you need to make any adjustments later you are able to find the right directory quickly and easily.

4.  Press underneath the word Source, where it says folder to move.  A new screen will show that will allow you to choose the directory the app or game is stored.   For most large apps and games the data file will be stored in the android/obb directory or the android/data directory.  Once you select the correct folder press the check mark in the upper right hand side of the screen.

5.  Once you press the check mark to select the correct directory the previous screen will reappear and a box will appear asking you if you would like to create the linked directory in the external SD card with the same name as the original app directory.  I would recommend that you choose yes with this option just to make it easier if you ever need to find the directory that is linked in the external SD card.  After the folders are chosen and named press the check mark in the upper right hand corner of the screen to start moving the data files into the new directory in the SD card.   After the files are moved just select the directory on the list to mount the files and its all set.  You have moved your large app to the external SD card!!  Now you can play your favorite games or use your extra large app smoothly and not use all the internal storage on your android device!!
