I have recently received several emails inquiring a possible way to recover lost photos without having to root the device in which the files where lost. I have found myself in the same type of situation in the past and can understand the frustration shared with these inquiries and recently have discovered Dr. Fone, a fairly new software that allows you to use your PC to recover these lost files and even lost contacts or text messages and restore them to your device. With most devices you can even use this software without rooting the device first!!
This software is simple, very affective, and even works for both android and iso firmwares!! Just install the software which can be found in this link
Once the software for your type of device is installed (Android or IOS) than connect your device to your PC. Make sure you have the correct drivers installed for your device. You can find these drivers on the manufacturer’s website.
Once installed and connected the software will ask you to enable usb debugging and even to verify your device if not rooted than will scan the device for images videos contacts and messages that are on the device and that have recently been deleted or lost. This may take a while since it’s scanning every directory and recently deleted directory on the device.
Once scanned the software will show all the images videos messages and contacts on the device and recently deleted. You can then restore files or delete them permanently. Easy as that!!

It will work without the use of the mass storage option. As long as you have the correct drivers installed for your device. Go to the manufacturers website and download their drivers for your device that should fix the problem.
